On the morning of this Tuesday (15 June), State Governor Eduardo Campos and the North/Northeast Regional Superintendent of Odebrecht, João Pacífico, signed a contract for the construction of the stadium that shall host the games of the 2014 World Cup. At a cost of R$ 464 million, this Arena, in the city of São Lourenço da Mata, in the Greater Recife Metropolitan Area, shall be built by a consortium made up of Odebrecht, ISG (International Stadia Group) and AEG Facilities, through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). After the start of operation of this Arena, scheduled for January 2013, the Government shall make a counterpayment of R$ 4 million per year.

According to Mr. Campos, it would be impossible to make use of the current stadiums to host the games of the World Cup according to FIFA requirements. “This is not a simple event. We have had to adapt to everything that FIFA requests, and the option for São Lourenço da Mata has been established based on technical criteria”. The choice of the location for the World Cup arena is based on the development of the West part of the State. With the Cidade da Copa (World Cup City), there shall be a new kind of urban centrality. “The Cidade da Copa is a new opportunity for the social and economic growth of the region”, said Mr. Pacífico.

The construction of this arena shall generate 1,500 direct jobs and 7,500 indirect jobs. In the opinion of the Governor, one of the most important heritages that the World Cup shall leave behind is the increase in the flow of tourists to the state, which could rise by as much as 30% after the World Cup. “We are looking at the situation after the Cup. We need to make this flow more loyal. We need to turn this event into something that rallies round our economy and also our athletes”, he said.

This Arena shall have a capacity of 45 thousand spectators. “This shall be a multiuse arena, bringing together football and entertainment, within a functional and sustainable project”, explained the superintendent of Odebrecht.

No dia em que o Brasil estreia na Copa do Mundo, Pernambuco dá mais um passo para a construção da Arena da Copa. Na manhã desta terça-feira (15), o governador Eduardo Campos e o diretor superintendente Norte/Nordeste da Odebrecht, João Pacífico, assinaram o contrato de construção do estádio que vai sediar os jogos de 2014. Com um custo de R$ 464 milhões, a arena, localizada em São Lourenço da Mata, município da Região Metropolitana do Recife, será construída pelo consórcio formado pela Odebrecht, ISG (International Stadia Group) e AEG Facilities, através de uma Parceria Público-Privada. Após o início da operação da arena, previsto para janeiro de 2013, o governo vai entrar com uma contrapartida de cerca de R$ 4 milhões por ano.

Segundo Eduardo Campos, seria impossível aproveitar os estádios existentes para realizar os jogos da Copa de acordo com as exigências da Fifa. “Não estamos tratando de um evento simples. Tivemos que nos adequar a tudo o que coloca a Fifa e a alternativa de São Lourenço da Mata foi estabelecida em cima de critérios técnicos”. A escolha do local da arena da Copa é baseado no desenvolvimento da região oeste do estado. Com a Cidade da Copa, vai surgir uma nova centralidade urbana. “A Cidade da Copa representa uma nova oportunidade para o crescimento socioeconômico da região”, disse João Pacífico.

A construção da arena vai gerar 1.500 empregos diretos e 7.500 empregos indiretos. Para o governador, um dos maiores legados deixados pelo Mundial será o aumento do fluxo turístico no estado, que pode ter um aumento de 30% após a Copa. “Estamos de olho no pós-Copa. Nós temos que fidelizar este fluxo. Temos que fazer deste evento um mobilizador da nossa economia e dos nossos atletas”, afirmou.

A arena terá capacidade para 45 mil espectadores. “Será uma arena multiuso agregando futebol e entretenimento, dentro de um projeto funcional e sustentável”, explicou o superintendente da Odebrecht.
